ONE-ACRE CONFERENCE CENTER PARKING LOT IN CLOVIS, CALIFORNIA

THE CHALLENGE

A community focal point since 1951, the Clovis Veterans Memorial District underwent a significant renovation in 2007, emerging as a modern auditorium and conference center. In 2015, Barrier was tasked with making the facility’s crumbling parking lot equally up-to-date and efficient. This would require the installation of an acre of carports while refurbishing the entire parking surface, all without interfering with the client’s busy holiday season.

THE PROCESS

Barrier staged the carport installation to coordinate with the redesign, demolition, rebuilding and repaving of the parking lot, and tied the new solar power system into an existing system to offset the District’s growing energy demands. All with minimal disruption to the facility’s holiday season operation.

THE RESULT

Barrier enlarged and updated the facility’s parking area, completely renovating it from the ground up, with net zero environmental impact. Not only do drivers (and their vehicles) now enjoy shaded parking, but the power generated by the new solar system is saving this community nonprofit a significant sum on its monthly energy bill.
